Where and when to file
Consumer complaints are filed before the District Commission for claims up to ₹50 lakh, the State Commission for claims above ₹50 lakh and up to ₹2 crore, and the National Commission above ₹2 crore. A complaint must generally be filed within two years of the cause of action (Section 69, Consumer Protection Act, 2019). Complaints can be filed online on the e-Daakhil portal, and commissions can refer suitable cases to mediation.
Common disputes include defective goods, deficient services, builders' delays, insurance claim rejections and misleading advertisements. Keep invoices, policy documents, correspondence and photographs, and send a written complaint to the company first.
